What's this? List of photography-related words in English and Japanese. The Main List has 1100+ words (click on the alphabet links). Many of the words are also categorized in separate lists (General, Camera, etc.). Meanwhile, the J-E List is a separate Japanese-to-English list of essential words not included in the Main List. And Signs is a photo gallery of Japanese signs explained in English.

Note: If the Japanese term contains an English word, the English word is spelled in normal English in the romanization. This is for easier recognition and maybe easier pronunciation and understanding. If the Japanese term is identical to the Engiish, a left arrow <- is displayed (you still have to pronounce it in the Japanese katakana way). Macrons are provided to indicate long vowel sounds. AF (autofocus)  lens <- AFレンズ

attach (a lens) toritsukeru 取り付ける
back focal distance bakku focus バックフォーカス
boke/bokeh boke-aji ボケ味 One of the rare Japanese words to be incorporated in the English language. It refers to the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light. Depending on the lens aberrations and shape of the lens diaphragm, the out-of-focus quality looks different.

chromatic aberration iro shūsa 色収差
condensation (of lens) gyōketsu 凝結
curvilinear distortion fuseikyoku shūsa 不正曲収差
detach (a lens) tori-hazusu 取り外す
diffraction kaisetsu 回折

fungus/mold kabi カビ "Kabi" means both fungus and mold.
halation <- ハレーション
image circle <- イメージサークル
Image Stabilizer (IS) tebure hosei kikō 手ブレ補正機構 Canon terminology. Nikon calls it vibration reduction (VR). Others might call it "anti-shake."
infinity (focus) mugen-en 無限遠
interchangeable lens kōkan lens 交換レンズ
internal/inner focusing <-, inner focus インターナル/インナーフォーカス Canon calls it inner focusing.

vignetting kerare けられ "Kerare" is also used to refer to the shadows created by the lens barrel obstructing part of the camera's built-in flash illumination.
white lenses 白玉 White lens barrels were first introduced by Canon to help make the lenses cooler under the sun.
