Izima Kaoru
Landscapes with a Corpse

October 14 – November 13, 2004

Von Lintel Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Japanese photographer Izima Kaoru. This exhibition depicts his romantic and provocative vision of beauty. In the ongoing Landscapes with a Corpse series, color and environment play a key role. Kaoru’s photographs possess a mysteriously alluring quality, both beautiful and tragic.

He orchestrates the process with an intense attention to detail, choosing a specific designer’s clothing for his models. Then with a cinematic flare, he choreographs their exact placement. Each shot captures the subject from a different angle and distance, providing the viewer with a sense of both wonder and resolution.

Kaoru views death as an integral part of life, rather than the opposite, and makes this apparent with his dynamic compositions and vibrant, celebratory choice of color. Landscapes with a Corpse evokes feelings of sympathy, while allowing the experience of death to be triumphantly graceful, beautiful, and inviting.

Izima Kaoru has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe, and is represented in numerous public and private collections internationally. A catalogue of this series will be available.
