“photo exhibition” vs. “photo exhibit”

Do you know the difference between “exhibition” and “exhibit?”

Too many times, I hear people mistakenly say “photo exhibit” instead of “photo exhibition.”

What you go to see at photo galleries and museums is a “photo exhibition,” not “photo exhibit.”

An exhibit is an individual display of an art piece, etc., maybe in its own little corner of the gallery.

Whereas an exhibition is a display of a collection of objects. Thus, an exhibition can consist of individual exhibits.
