What's this? Fukagawa Hachiman Festival photos by Philbert Ono. Held in mid-August in Koto Ward, Tokyo, this is the festival's full-scale version held once every three years (1996, 1999, 2002, etc.).

Sacred Carriage Procession
Aug. 17, 1996

The procession returns to the shrine as they pass under the giant torii gate. A good number of people were also on hand to welcome them back. The procession was scheduled to return to the shrine at 4:30 p.m., but they ran 30 min. behind schedule.

After the procession returned, a brief ceremony was held and offerings were given to the Sacred Carriage's portable shrine still on the truck. The head priest read a prayer message before the Sacred Carriage's portable shrine.
