What's this? Fukagawa Hachiman Festival photos by Philbert Ono. Held in mid-August in Koto Ward, Tokyo, this is the festival's full-scale version held once every three years (1996, 1999, 2002, etc.).
Sacred Carriage Procession
Aug. 17, 1996The procession returns to the shrine as they pass under the giant torii gate. A good number of people were also on hand to welcome them back. The procession was scheduled to return to the shrine at 4:30 p.m., but they ran 30 min. behind schedule.
After the procession returned, a brief ceremony was held and offerings were given to the Sacred Carriage's portable shrine still on the truck. The head priest read a prayer message before the Sacred Carriage's portable shrine.
