What's this? Sendai Tanabata Festival photos by Philbert Ono. Held during August 6-8 in Sendai, Miyagi.

Many of the decorations are hung low for you to touch and pass through. One which stuck in my mind was the streamers which were actually strings of fingertip-size origami cranes (photo above and below). It was mind-boggling to think of the hours spent folding all those little cranes to form even one string.

 

The tiny folded cranes amazed a lot of people.
