What's this? Biographies of prominent people in Japanese photography. Although most are Japanese photographers, it also includes non-photographers and non-Japanese who have made significant contributions to Japanese photography. Early photographers (late 19th c.) and deceased photographers are included. To see how many biographies there are, click on "All" above and see the number at the bottom of the page. (The number of reads [the hit count] indicated on the upper left applies from March 3, 2003 onward.)

PhotoWho'sWho Features

PhotoWho'sWho is database-driven and constructed with dynamic Web pages.
Each biography has its own, separate Web page.
Some biographies have both English and Japanese biographies. Japanese kanji characters are provided for Japanese names.
Each biography has a "Score" showing 1 to 5 stars. This rates the person's fame in Japan. A 5-star rating means that the person is famous in Japan and abroad.
You can add comments or corrections below any biography. Just click on "Post Comment" at the bottom of the page. If you want to post comments in your own name (instead of "Guest"), click on "Create an account" and register yourself.

Notes: All Japanese personal names follow the Japanese convention of the family name (all caps) coming before the given name.
